About Kathryn Shawkey
National Weather Service meteorologist in Paducah, KY. I have been in this field since May of 2018. My primary responsibilities are creating the weather forecast for a 58 county area that encompasses southeast MO, southern IL, southwest IN, and western KY. I am also responsible for evaluating, creating, and disseminating watches and warnings for severe and impactful weather. I completed a case study of a severe weather event that happened in December 2021 that took me to two conferences in 2022. I was the co-chair of the Dept. of Commerce Women in STEM group from 2021-2023.
