Kathy Hart is the director of the NC State’s WolfTreks Alumni Travel Program. She began her career at the NC Sea Grant College Program, which was located on the NC State campus. As communications director at Sea Grant, she was managing editor of Coastwatch magazine and oversaw the production of all NC Sea Grant publications. Kathy chaired the Sea Grant Network National Communications Committee, and its National Media Relations Committee as well as co-chaired two national media forums in Washington, D.C. She served two years as chair of the board of directors of NC Big Sweep, the nation's largest statewide waterway litter cleanup. In 1998, Kathy joined the Alumni Association as editor of NC State magazine. In 2001, she was named an associate executive director, leaving behind the day-to-day magazine oversight and taking on additional management and communication duties. Kathy managed a staff of seven communications professionals and an events manager. She is adept at email marketing, social media and website management. She produced talking points and/or speeches for Chancellor Randy Woodson, Executive Director Benny Suggs and members of the Alumni Association Board of Directors for key Alumni Association events. Her staff managed the rebranding of the NC State Alumni Association in 2016 and the redesign of NC State magazine in 2017-2018. She oversees Alumni Association signature events: Evening of Stars Gala, Legacy Luncheon, Howl Back Party, Holiday Open House and the Alumni Association Faculty Awards and Mathews Medal Ceremony. She branded and expanded the WolfTreks Travel Program from 10 trips and less than 70 travelers to 40 trips and 400 travelers. Kathy grew the Alumni Association collectible holiday ornament program from $30,000 to more than $80,000 in annual sales through online and email marketing. Kathy has won numerous communications awards and co-authored Coastal Carolina Cooking, published by UNC Press. She retired from her full-time position to manage WolfTreks part-time.
