Since 1990, I have taught students from every grade K-8 so my knowledge of elementary curriculum is broad. I have also served in administration as an AP for a few years, as well served gifted children K-5. I care about the education of children because they are our future. If we want to compete with other countries like China and India, we must put the same level of respect on education and the teaching profession. We must realize that we cannot put all children in the same mold and expect the same result from all children. I believe in an equal education for all, but it doesn't necessarily have to be the same type. It must fit the need of the child and his/her abilities and interests and push them to their limits as happens in other countries. Treat teachers as the professionals they are and stop the testing madness! While my students have always scored well, I don't believe that is what makes me a good teacher. It is about relationships. When students know you care, they strive to do well. Education is the best profession in the world as far as feeling good that what you do each day makes a difference! But I also believe that teaching is a calling. In 2018 I retired from public schools with 29 years of service. I was also blessed to serve as headmistress at a small private Christian school, and currently serve on the board of the school.
