I worked seven years in the Henderson County School System as a speech therapist with a bachelor's degree from Brescia College until May of 1983 when my fourth child was born. I took a year's leave of absence and completed an already in progress Master's program through Western Kentucky University. I took my ASHA exam and licensure exam and was able to do private therapy the summer of 1983. I began seeing a few children out of my church's basement, then contacted a daycare in Henderson to provide services in their facility for those parents who were unable to get their children to another facility because of long working hours. That began my life as a traveler, even when that was not vogue!. I contracted with home health agencies, nursing homes, hospitals, developmentally/disabled adult homes and facilities in Kentucky and Indiana, other school systems and became busy very quickly. I was willing to go where I was needed and that proved to be successful. Also I gained a wealth of experience with all age levels, all backgrounds, many different ethnic groups, and a collage of individual genetic, acquired, and developmental disabilities. I have attended numerous excellent trainings over the past 36 years. Two of my favorites were the week long seminar on Early Intervention in Osh Kosh, Wisconsin with Dr. Jack Kyle, audiologist and Dr. Louis Rosetti, speech/language pathologist, and an eight day training seminar at the Sensory Learning Institute in Boulder, Colorado with Mary Boulds and staff. We have taught well over 200 patients in the past eight years in this program. My daughter, Callie Bayola,RN, assists me in providing the Sensory Learning Program. I currently see most of my patients in my clinic at Zion Road with a few others I see in a small clinic in Madisonville through the Scottish Rite Childhood Language Center. I still see a few very disabled individuals in their homes. I continue to love the challenge of an "impossibility"!!!
