As a private piano instructor I teach students ranging in age from young children to adults. I use my classical training to build a solid foundation of piano skills and theory, but I also supplement with an occasional "fun" piece to keep the students engaged. Most importantly, I maintain a positive and nurturing attitude to encourage a love for music and enjoyment of playing for sheer pleasure. I work with each student as individuals with different needs and prefer to form a curriculum that is tailored to the student's interests, while at the same time making sure I give them the necessary tools for good musicianship.I also am an experienced piano accompanist. In addition to my private studio I teach at the Leesburg Music & Arts store. I was one of the first hired as an instructor at the new location and because the store itself is new, I have received a bumper crop of young beginners. I capitalize on their youthful enthusiasm and the sheer joy they feel when playing a song they know for the first time. Some teachers are very rigid and have uniform expectations for all students, but I prefer to work with a student as an individual with unique skills and motivations. There are some basic skills and theory knowledge that are critical to good musicianship, but where we go after the basics are in place can be quite different from one student to the next. Show less

As Music Director of the Vienna Youth Players I bring the same nurturing approach I use in my piano studio to preparing the budding actors (ages 11-18) for a production of one musical at the end of every summer. In two months' worth of rehearsals I teach the songs to the cast and soloists. I also coordinate the band members and adjust the orchestration to meet the productions' needs. My primary task was forums moderation for an online video game, Star Wars: The Old Republic. I read forums posts by forums members to understand what the community's most important concerns were, and then forwarded these concerns to game developers through daily reports. I also made sure that the posts conformed to forums guidelines for conduct and content. I posted on the forums in my role as moderator to explain any actions I took, always maintaining a friendly but professional tone.
