I’ll never forget the defining moment in 2005, my 14th year working as a school social worker in the Minneapolis Public Schools. Feeling totally frustrated, I looked at the group of 5th grade girls I was leading and stated “We are done talking. We are going to do Yoga!” Giggles of excitement filled the room as the girls got fully engaged in sharing all the movements they wanted to learn. I, in turn, got to expand their experience and share Breathe Move Rest practices that could help them when feeling stressed, worried, and sad.As the girls engaged in learning the mind-body practices on a regular basis, they became better able to self-regulate and reported less stress and anxiety. They also were spending more time in the classroom, rather than in my office. I saw results in six weeks that I hadn't seen in 14 years!This became the catalyst to start my company, movemindfully that would foster physical, emotional, and mental health for youth, adults, and families with simple and accessible trauma-responsive mind-body practices. Our continued work in schools, hospitals, and therapeutic settings affirmed how much the adults benefited from the integration of Breath Move Rest strategies to manage their stress along with their students/patients/clients who needed the practices for self-regulation and connection.Since 2009, movemindfully has provided hundreds of workshops, trainings, and consultations with simple and accessible trauma-responsive mind body practices supporting thousands of individuals with tools to navigate stress, manage anxiety, suicide ideation, and depression.We continue to engage and expand the movemindfully community with gratitude for our mentors, collaborative partners, instructors, ambassadors, and practitioners, who are dedicated to creating and nurturing cultures of well-being worldwide.
