I once thought I’d follow in my dad’s footsteps and become an engineer, but my early love of art, drawing and beautiful spaces won out. Learning technical drawing in high school complimented my interest in art and eye-catching spaces and led me down the hallways of Architecture. .While completing my master’s in architecture, I honed my practical skills in drawing preparations (schematic, contract documents and construction), first as a graduate architect at James Deans and later growing my career trajectory at companies like Michael Carr, Silver Thomas Hanley and GHD Woodhead. .I’m a strong advocator for carving your own adventurous path and thinking ‘outside the box.’ That’s the mindset I tend to lead from, so I encourage my clients to hold to their visions even if it’s somewhat outside the norm and work with them to bring their vision to life. This same mindset led me to establish my own architectural business, KiR Architecture, where I enjoy working with existing or new structures to create revolutionary or complimentary spaces for clients who dream in broader artistic strokes. .I’m following a particularly ‘outside the box’ path in my personal life through rigorous training in competitive cross-country skiing and am currently registered as a FIS skier, representing Malaysia. This type of training, much like visionary architectural spaces, involves boundary-pushing, a willingness to have a go and remaining steadfast in a vision. .Key professional and personal successes include:• Successfully negotiating and meeting strict design criteria for a commercial, retail customer who then secured a prime commercial leasing spot at a major shopping centre.• Reconfigured a typical sunken living room to an open-plan living area and repositioned the kitchen to become the heart of the home. • Being part of the team who won an award for the work completed on Barwon Water HQ and featured in the following publication for this work:https://wp.architecture.com.au/news-media/rigour-and-reimagining-winners-shine-at-2018-national-architecture-awards/ • Winning the Snow Trek Travel High Plains Tour Race at Falls Creek in the Overall Women’s category in 2021. I stay connected to my Malaysian roots and community as a volunteer radio broadcaster and DJ at 3ZZZ Community Radio. I’m also a lifelong learner and researcher who undertakes regular learning to grow in various skills. I subscribe wholeheartedly to this wisdom from Mark Twain: “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.”
