I worked as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney. Main areas of responsibility were prosecution of misdemeanors and felony cases ranging from theft, to battery and assault, to fraud and forgery, to murder. Also required was a working knowledge of the state mental health code, and the ability to conduct civil commitment hearings and work with the Department of Health and Welfare and designated examiners in order to appropriately observe the requirements of the code. My criminal duties included representing the State of Idaho in court for all stages of criminal proceedings from arraignment to trial and sentencing, as well as screening and charging cases, meeting with police officers and other witnesses as needed for trial preparation, providing victim's rights compliance and ensuring victim update and contact through the completion of every case, and attending any out-of-court events necessary for effective prosecution of cases assigned to me (e.g. benefit hearings related to fraud cases, autopsies related to murder cases, etc.). My civil duties included advocating for the State of Idaho at civil commitment hearings, conducting direct examination for state retained psychologists and/or designated examiners, assessing the evidence in the case for sufficiency, and presenting the State's case for commitment and providing the proper evidence to the Court.
