Two of the three business units have been dissolved and the Waterloo office is continuing to downsize. Unfortunately more Canadian layoffs will occur shortly.It was an amazing company to work with and the people there are wonderful, but I also believe there are great new opportunities. This region is full of new technology developments and I am sure my next venture will be even more fun and challenging.

Advance Product Developer Designed complex high-speed, multi-layer printed FPGA/CPLD surface mount circuit boards for professional cinema projectors for a range of designs, from high power boards with thick core materials for heat dissipation to complex 10GHz delay matching DDR3 memory and PCIE modules.  Successfully designed a manufacturable high-speed board using the advanced computer microchip - IMX processor. Prototype board outperformed previous boards to become the processing platform for all future projectors within the Business Product group. Designed main processor module using unfamiliar technologies, researching recommended layouts and selecting appropriate engineering principles needed to meet specifications and ensure board operated efficiently.  Worked collaboratively to design a high current circuit boards for an innovative new projector, utilizing new methods and approaches to deliver a clean design that operated as required. Successfully demonstrated the operational efficiency and reliability of new board design to engineers and design team, gaining final approval for production. Contributed to an extensive library of templates that were used on multiple boards, improving efficiency of the design process. Remained current with new technology and methodology through webinars and attending IPC conferences. Maintained design documentation including board level test procedures to submit for controlled data storage in accordance with ISO.

ECAD Specialist PCB Design Created complex FPGA/CPLD surface mount prototype designs and updated existing layouts with focus on camera and test systems for CMOS and CCD sensors supporting up to one million mega pixels resolution. Designed with a clear understanding of best design practices for component placement, routing practices for high density, multilayer PCBs. Translated customer specifications to design/modify mechanicals to fit within a required housing, identifying critical component placement, mounting holes and other board design considerations.  Verified the intent and capability of selected camera with special considerations to clock speed, signal integrity, differential, controlled impedance and required board technology, offering board build stack up and approximate cost and time.  Negotiated for optimal circuit board construct for DFMA that included a solid ground around critical signal layers and a minimum 0.004” trace to reduce cost and differential impedance lines at an even 0.010” space for simplicity and ease of routing. Provided information on power consumption, heat dissipation to ensure a design with optimal operating conditions. Provided assistance with overall project management, coordinated design cycle with various support groups (Test Eng., Manufacturing, Purchasing, Shipping) to proactively identify resources, define requirements and optimize performance. Hosted collective design reviews to identify and correct anomalies in order to finalize projects.  Maintained design documentation to submit for controlled data storage in accordance with ISO.  Selected for training as a Lead Quality Control Auditor; subsequently trained and guided audit team to conduct full ISO 9001 audits across the organization, from sales to shipping, from clean room manufacturing to corporate finance. Facilitated meetings with critical heads of departments to review findings and implement necessary changes.

 Drove process of new product development through the prototype manufacturing cycle, integrating design with current plant resources and capabilities to minimize impact on current production and avoid unnecessary expenditures. Specified material list and initial BOM cost as part of project management, obtaining sign-off of approval before forwarding to other departments. Managed resources, planning, packaging, shipping, and resolution of customer satisfaction.  As team lead, hired, trained and scheduled a team of eight with aggressive design and development timelines while accommodating vacations and other absences.
