Duty ManagerCyprus Airways Mar 1984 - Feb 1994Manchester AirportIt was my role to liaise and work closely with our handling agent Service Air for the 4 weekly Cyprus Airways Flights in and out of Manchester and Birmingham Airports. My duties were to ensure we had the passenger manifests for each flight, the opening of check in desk on time, and the allocation of seats for all passengers, including those requiring assistance for a variety of reasons. Also I manned our ticket desk and was responsible for the quoting and selling of tickets through the in-house system of Gallileo.We had to ensure there was ground personnel to meet our flights, along with ourselves , where I remained until the aircraft was cleanedand prepared for flight .I had to arrange with crew transportation from aircraft/hotels to other airports, loading of baggage and also liaising with flight crew and our handling agents, to ensure that our scheduled flight departed within our 2 hour allocated turnaround.I had to oversee any delays, and the Issuing of travel and hotel vouchers for passengers on overbooked and cancelled flights.Finally, as a main focal point of contact for the Airline, I had to address passenger anger and frustrations that unfortunately arise occasionally.I am highly skilled at being able to defuse and rectify complaints in a sometimes volatile face to face capacity, and also over the phone, after many years experience in dealing with members of the public. The ability to be able to listen is key, and subsequently address all the concerns raised until all parties are fully satisfied with the outcome.
