Development Committee Volunteer
CurrentSpecial Days Camps exists to provide a safe and memorable camping opportunity in a medically supervised environment for children, ages 5-17, who have experienced cancer and their siblings. We serve over 200 campers annually, serving the entire state of Michigan, including campers from more than 20 Michigan counties. Since 1979, we've served almost 10,000 kids and 20,000 family members. We offer traditional camping activities, adapted to meet the special needs of all our campers. Over 80% of our volunteer staff are former campers, that includes leadership, program and medical staff. Our kids grow up and want to give back, because camp offers them something that they don't find many places - a community of people who understand what they are going through. Special Days gives kids with cancer a safe place to simply be kids, it gives siblings a chance to support themselves with people who understand what it means to have a sibling with cancer with a week just for them, and it provides parents with a reprieve from the day-to-day responsibilities of tending to children navigating a cancer diagnosis.
