Founder and current project director of a unique program providing academic and comprehensive social support services to formerly incarcerated youth in San Mateo County; Project Change is designed to ensure formerly incarcerated youth receive direct support accessing higher education. This includes college courses at the juvenile hall as well as support on campus at the college.Job Duties and Skills Include:• Create and enact unique program development in order to provide comprehensive educational services for court-involved students transitioning to community college. • Collaborate and create strong partnerships with multiple San Mateo County organizations, which include the San Mateo County Probation Department, San Mateo County Office of Education, Court Appointed Special Advocates, the San Mateo County Community College District, and various departments and services on campus at the College of San Mateo. • Connect students with multiple recourses at the college and in San Mateo County in order to enhance student success socially and academically. • Exchange information with staff, students, juvenile justice agencies, educational and community organizations, funding resources and governmental institutions, community organizations and the general public regarding Project Change. • Attend meetings off-site, facilitate and attend workshops to train volunteers and provide project information to collaborating partners and supporters.• Manage and facilitate student referrals from county facilities for enrollment in the program.• Recruit and manage faculty and staff volunteers for participation in the program.

Teach basic skills, college level composition, literature, critical thinking, and business writing to a diverse student population with varying skill level, academic needs, and cultural backgrounds, including speakers of other languages and students with disabilities. Focus on skill development: integrated reading and writing strategies, metacognitive awareness, sentence variety and style, and essay development techniques. Instruct MLA and APA documentation, critical reading and writing, argumentation and rhetoric for college level and advanced writing courses. Additionally work in the writing center to assist students one-on-one with self-editing techniques.
