Phd StudentUniversity Of Bristol Oct 2010 - May 2015Title: Biogeochemistry of an eogenetic karst island: implications for diagenesisSynopsis: The research used reactive transport models to identified the parameters controlling meteoric diagenesis in a modern carbonate island environment. This also highlighted the lack of understanding of the biogeochemistry in these settings. To further investigate this, high temporal and spatial sampling was undertaken to characterise the evolution of the biogeochemistry of the meteoric waters as they move through the hydrological cycle and interact with vegetation. Particular attention was paid to the transformations of organic carbon prior to it reaching the water table. Field experiments were conducted to characterise the respiration rates of the microbial community within the aquifer to the differing meteoric waters in order to understand the impact microbial mediated reactions have on meteoric diagenesis in this settings.Departmental website: www.bristol.ac.uk/earthsciences/people/katherine-j-cooper/Blog detailing fieldwork: www.bristolandrosprojects.blogspot.com -
