I support the Family Support Team at The Joshua Tree charity. A charity which helps families affected by childhood cancer. We provide emotional and wellbeing support to children and their families at diagnosis and beyond. The team are dedicated to working closely with families and offer tailored services to suit the family’s specific needs, by means of emotional and practical support. These services include creative arts, counselling, art and play therapy, health and wellbeing activities and lots more.

Education And Training Officer at New Era. New Era is the new holistic Domestic Abuse (DA) service delivered by Victim Support. In this role I lead on development and delivery of Domestic Abuse in the Workplace Champions (WPC) Programme in Staffordshire, delivering alongside the Community Officers within RRP perpetrator services. I supported the facilitation of online (women's only) Domestic Abuse work group programme called ‘iMatter’. Each session focuses around group discussion and the sharing of ideas. The focus of iMatter is not on individual experiences, but on helping victims of domestic abuse move on in their recovery journey. The programme looks at the importance of self-worth, self-care and mindfulness.

In my role I develop and maintain relationships with employers to increase the recruitment of University of Derby students and recent graduates to work experience, internships and graduate employment. My role at the University of Derby is external facing and it involves engaging with local, national and international organisations to increase opportunities for students and graduates. In particular I support the college of Health and Social Care and the school of Arts. These opportunities are varied and include internships, work experience, placements, graduate schemes and events.

My role involves providing administrative and customer service to students and community organisations in order to deliver a quality service for student volunteering and work experience in the curriculum. I work with students, community organisations, the Union of Students and Colleges to deliver all aspects of the service, making effective use of systems, implementing procedures and promoting the service using a variety of methods. I have frequent interaction with clients and service users. I joined The Access Project is at an exciting stage of its development. The charity was already established in Greater London and Birmingham and was starting to work with 3 schools in North Nottinghamshire, around the Chesterfield and Mansfield area. In Nottinghamshire, I focused on building a community of volunteers from the city and local area who donate their time to helping students improve their grades. Therefore, recruiting and training volunteers was absolutely fundamental to the impact on students and growth as an organisation. I supported the Head of the Midlands to recruit new supporters to the organisation, such as schools, donors, trusts, companies and volunteers. Worked in a mixed gender specialist day school in Derby that provides education for children and young people with autism.Help a child learn how to develop communication, manage behaviour and emotions, make choices and gain skills required for adult life. Through Creative Expressive workshop's which were all facilitated using the 'person-centered' approach. - Experience of using PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) as a communication tool. - Experience in Intensive Interaction is an approach for teaching communication skills to children and adults who have autism, severe learning difficulties and profound and multiple learning difficulties who are still at early stages of development.

I was chosen to be an artist in residence along with 6 other artists, the outstanding artist John Newling being one. I was comissioned to make a sculpture for the celebration of the Arboretum Park in derby (175th Anniversary, the first park in Britain).View pictures of this experience on my blog.
