I was granted the opportunity to be a Summer grain merchandising intern at the Lathrop Feed and Grain Elevator in Lathrop, Missouri. While holding this position I took a course through the University of Arkansas, sponsored by the White Commercial Cooperation involved the Applications and Fundamentals of Basis Trading. By taking and passing this course I was rewarded a Level 1: Grain Merchandising Certificate. Also while working as summer intern I learned the ins and outs of the futures markets, basis levels, and calculating and interpreting cash bids for local commodities. I also learned the skills and knowledge it takes to run a grain elevator operation. I helped customers, answered the phone, completed several basic office responsibilities and learned many new skills.
