I am currently an undergraduate researcher in the Domaille Laboratory within the Mines Chemistry Department. Throughout my experience in the laboratory, I have gained hands-on experience with multi-step chemical synthesis and chemical analysis using a variety of techniques including NMR, thin layer chromatography, and column chromatography. In addition, I attend weekly research meetings to provide progress updates to the primary faculty investigator and the other four members of the lab, and I gave a final oral PowerPoint presentation summarizing the research and learning outcomes achieved over the course of the spring semester. I have really enjoyed applying my knowledge from chemistry coursework to real applications in the lab, as well as having the opportunity to operate in multi-disciplinary research that allows me to incorporate aspects of biology, chemistry, and physics to approach a problem.

I served as an undergraduate teaching assistant supporting the Analog Electronics course within the Physics Department. As a TA, I supported students via weekly office hours and laboratory experiments, in addition to grading and providing feedback on student assignments. I greatly enjoyed the opportunity to help students learn about electronics and to aid in creating a supportive learning environment for the course.

As an undergraduate writing fellow at the Mines Writing Center, I supported Mines students with various writing needs (technical, creative, persuasive, professional, etc.) via weekly drop-in tutoring hours. I drew on my diverse experiences as a writer to offer aid to students at any stage of the writing process, from brainstorming to revising and polishing final drafts. I feel that clear writing is often correlated with clear thinking, and I really enjoyed helping students to express their ideas clearly and effectively through written pieces.

I worked as a Core Review Facilitator for the Mines Core Review program. This peer-led academic support program aids Mines students in their core math and science coursework. As a peer facilitator, I held regular weekly office hours to offer students additional support for Chemistry I outside of the classroom. Additionally, I collaborated with my fellow peer facilitator to create, organize, and lead exam review sessions prior to the Chemistry I exams. In order to facilitate effective learning during the larger review sessions (which had up to 70 or more students in attendance, depending on the semester), I helped to identify the key concepts within the exam material and create interactive content and practice problem slides to guide the flow of the review sessions. I loved working in the collaborative environment that the Core Review program offered, and I really enjoyed the opportunity to draw on my passion for chemistry to help empower other students to feel more supported in their chemistry coursework at Mines.
