Some of my favourite childhood memories are of visiting museums and historic sites. But it wasn't until recent years I figured this could be the career path for me. I took my passion for learning and history and got myself an undergraduate degree. Taking a break from education I got promoted to bar supervisor, and expanded my transferable and interpersonal skills. While I am grateful for all I have learned working in hospitality it is not the career for me. And so, in 2018 I began a voluntary role as a collections and library assistant at Brunel’s SS Great Britain. Here, I developed the desire and skills to kickstart a career in the heritage industry. My long term professional goals are: - To succeed in a career I enjoy and feel passionate about. - To help make a positive impact in the cultural and heritage industries. - To help communities, and to encourage people to get involved and excited about their local heritage. - To show the next generation that working in a historic industry is fun, and beneficial to future society. But I have to start somewhere. My short term professional goals are: - To continue my education: I have enrolled onto a 3 month online course with the University of Oxford Department for Continuing Education, ‘Archaeology in Practice’. I am also researching distance learning masters, and will start applying in 2021. - To start my career. I still have a lot to learn, and I am ready to be educated. I look forward to connecting with you!
