The role involves representing the views and interests of PGR students, providing feedback to University staff to enhance teaching, learning and student experience. This involves facilitating communication between students and staff, welcoming and integrating new postgraduate students and engaging in meetings with the committee to discuss current postgraduate issues.

I have 3 years of experience teaching students at a varying stages in their undergraduate studies:• 1st year general undergraduate physics labs• 2nd and 3rd year undergraduate nuclear physics labs • 3rd year M.A.C.E (Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering) nuclear labsTeaching has played a vital role in enriching my personal development over the course of my postgraduate studies. It has allowed me to pass on some of the knowledge and tips I picked up during my own undergraduate studies to the next generation of students. I have gained experience in teaching to students of different experience levels and also to students from different disciplines of study. This has taught me how to adapt the delivery of content to suit the requirements of the audience.

The research focused on studies which exploit the direct nature of (d,p) transfer-reactions.Firstly, to probe the single particle structure of nuclei. This involved measuring the change in nuclear structure in the neutrino-less double beta decay candidate system Selenium-82 to Krypton-82. Secondly, as a novel surrogate reaction technique to study neutron-induced fission of actinides. This involves analysis of the data from a proof-of-concept experiment, measuring the (d,p) induced fission of Uranium-238.

I completed an eight week research project within the nuclear physics department at the University of Edinburgh. The project was focused on the optimisation and testing of helium gas cells for an experimental nuclear astrophysics measurement at ISOLDE, CERN. A second part of the project involved use of the SRIM software to determine an optimisation of experimental settings for the measurement.
