I worked alongside a team of 30 volunteers to assist families in navigating the visiting process at the prison in Strasbourg and was dedicated to supporting the child-parent relationships when a mother or father was incarcerated. I attended bi-weekly meetings with the Director of the Maison 30, to understand more clearly how the French government and non-government organizations work together to support incarcerated individuals and prepare them for successful reintegration following the completion of their sentences. I also participated in monthly prison division meetings and created a dialogue between myself and the volunteers to strengthen the division’s comprehension of incarceration in the United States.

I served as a research assistant on youth incarceration and “Raise the Age” legislation in New York State. I assisted in facilitating a workshop that educated students on their rights during interactions with law enforcement during a two-week workshop titled, “Know Your Rights.” Throughout the summer, I collaborated with staff members and community members in the publication of the report, “Pathway to Reformative Change: Public Safety, Law Enforcement and the Albany Community” in the production of a cohesive graphic design that would allow for the report to provide clear, visual representations of its findings.

Throughout the summer, I supported Senator Schumer, his staff and his constituents by assisting with constituency requests regarding federal agencies, answering constituent phone calls, addressing personal comments from the public and constructing daily, local news briefs for the Senator and his staff to review. I prepared daily news briefs from the local newspapers to be submitted to the Senator and his staff to keep his office updated and aware of the issues concerning residents of Albany County. I attended press conferences in the Capital Region to ensure that the Senator and his staff had the logistical support that they needed to make a successful public appearance with the press, policymakers from the Capital Region and constituents alike.
