I am excited to start this new journey working for SOILL (Special Olympics of Illinois). It is safe to say that the Special Olympics is a family business. My brother Owen has been involved for over 30 years, my father is also a coach at Shabbona Park. My mother is a social worker who finds placement and support for adults with intellectual disabilities. I have volunteered, cheered on, and supported my brother and his peers throughout the years. The last four years I've worked as a special education paraprofessional in a self-contained classroom for District 80. I have been honored to have learned so much and made so many friends in the process. For 25 years I've worked in the hospitality industry and I am currently a manager, server, bartender (pretty much a jack of all trades) at Nonno Pinos in Edison Park. I would have to say my most important job is raising my three young ladies, Rosie (13) and Mary and Fiona (12).This past May I received my associates in special education with all honors. This was one of the greatest accomplishments I've had in a long time. The fact that I have been diagnosed with dyslexia and was able to overcome my learning disability to make the Dean’s list proved to me that I can really do anything. So in my spare time (when I have it), I love to take the dog out for a long walk, Watch movies that we all can agree on. I've recently learned how to garden, so I'm having fun experimenting with different plants. I also love to go camping. I have a seasonal spot in Whitewater Wisconsin and the girls and I consider that our second home.
