She is mature and responsible, and she has excellent social skills. I recommend her very strongly. " and "Katie was a dedicated Student Peer Advisor in the Whittier College Office of International Programs. After returning from her semester program abroad in Italy, she approached our office, offering to share her experience with other students, in the hopes that she would inspire her peers to study abroad. Very quickly, Katie's advising moved from anecdotal to procedural, and she was an invaluable resource for advising our students one-on-one and in groups. She became well versed in office and college procedures that would support her work with students.
Katie also provided office and programming support, including smaller daily registrar and bursar-related tasks, as well as larger projects involving program recruitment and major event coordination. The amount of time and effort this (then) student gave in support of our office was commendable and demonstrated her growing commitment to the field of international education. In fact, event when her work study award ran out, she still came into the office and worked, proving her dedication, sincerity, and eagerness to learn and be mentored.
It was a true pleasure to work with Katie during her final year at Whittier College. She brought enthusiasm and real passion to the office and to a realm of education that can be somewhat intimidating to students. Student workers like Katie do not come along all that often, and we were fortunate she came to us. She set a high bar that we continue to use as a standard, when hiring new student staff. It is my absolute pleasure to recommend Katie O'Brien without reservation."
