I am currently pursuing a PhD in Primary Care and Population Sciences within the School of Primary Care, Population Sciences and Medical Education at the University of Southampton. My PhD is funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) School for Primary Care Research.My PhD research stems from the recent Department of Health and Social Care Women's Health Survey which highlighted many respondents feel unheard, dismissed or viewed as exaggerating during primary care consultations, especially those relating to menstrual and gynaecological symptoms and conditions. Using the person-based approach, I plan to build onto the existing EMPathicO digital intervention (developed primarily at Southampton) by developing a training module aimed at enhancing GPs' communication of clinical empathy and realistic optimism in consultations relating to menstrual and gynaecological symptoms and conditions.
