I hold a Ph.D. in Gerontology, an emphasis in Educational Technology, and I'm certified in Instructional Design. My master's degree is in journalism and communication, providing a unique intersection of skills. As a Research Specialist II at the University of Missouri-Columbia, I manage all aspects of communication and data collection for the Siblings Caring for Parents with Dementia study, funded by the National Institute on Aging. This includes all research responsibilities from recruitment, through enrollment, and the study finish (qualitative interviews, biological sample collection, etc.). I oversee, train, and direct undergrad and graduate research assistants. In addition to my research role, I am a coach and consultant with NeverTechLate, a program that empowers older adults to be online and safely embrace digital technologies. I teach lifelong learners how to use tablets, email, video conferencing, and other digital tools, and how to explore the digital world with confidence and curiosity. My passion is to help older adults combat loneliness and isolation through social media and technology integration and to create motivation-based educational lessons that enhance their learning outcomes and experiences.I have over a decade of experience with communications, predominantly in the realm of higher education. This includes the management and oversight of a professional academic journal. In addition, I have experience conducting qualitative interviews, developing and conducting experimental studies, transcribing and coding data, and maintaining data cleanliness, analysis, and security.
