If you had told a younger version of myself that she would get to play with robots and learn exciting new things almost every day, she would have bounced up and down with excitement. For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to learn how absolutely everything works. My favorite childhood hobby was making new things – whether it was crafting a robot out of paper or making a car out of a shoebox and plastic wheels. As I grew, this evolved into a passion for robotics and a love for technology. The most fulfilling experience of my life has been my involvement with FIRST Robotics Competition Team 5188, Area 5188: Classified Robotics. I joined the team as a high school student and developed a love for programming and electronics, inspiring me to major in computer engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. As a college student, I am a mentor for the team and my enthusiasm has only grown. Through my role as Outreach Coordinator for Area 5188: Classified Robotics, my involvement in developing Dr. Carlotta Berry’s open-source educational robots, Flower∞Bots, and my volunteerism through the Noblitt Scholars Program, Rose-BUD, and IEEE Eta Kappa Nu, I have further developed a passion for creating more opportunities for children to find a love for STEM. My experiences as an Electrical Engineering Intern, a Software Engineering Intern, and a Mobile Robotics Research Assistant have further motivated my own love of learning. On the inside, I am still the excitable little girl who tried to make robots out of anything she could find. On the outside, I am living my dream learning the coolest new things every day.
