About Katie Dixon

(GMBPsS) MSc Health Psychology Graduate from Liverpool John Moores University now embarking on a NIHR BRC Cancer Science PhD Studentship at The University of Manchester. I will be working within the Radiotherapy-Related Research (RRR) group allowing me to expand my knowledge in one of my key areas of interest. I shall be developing and evaluating decision-support tools in routine oncology clinical practice, specifically focusing on Small Cell Lung Cancer and Prophylactic Cranial Irradiation practice. I will be using stakeholders shared decision-making theories/frameworks and aspects of dual-processing theory to explain clinical reasoning. I will also incorporate aspects of Health Psychology to design and implement the decision-support tool. Alongside my PhD, I participate in the ISupport project which emphasises my enthusiasm for protecting children’s rights during medical procedures and I am a passionate speaker on behalf of the project. It is an honour to say this project won the Child Health Category at the RCN Nursing Awards 2023 held at the Liverpool Cathedral. Many people have noted that I have shown amazing determination, motivation, and strength throughout different stages and situations in my life. I don’t let any challenge bring me down or stop me from achieving what I want in life.
