About Katie "Kat" Field, Ed.S.

Kat is originally from a North Dakota town so small, it had dirt roads and no stop lights. After high school, she received a scholarship to study at North Dakota State University, where she majored in psychology. Following graduation, Kat chose to further her academic career by studying international education and human rights in New York at Teachers College, Columbia University. While there, Kat researched restorative justice and trauma sensitive pedagogy for her thesis, and met many former educators whose stories inspired her to get first hand experience in the classroom.A firm believer in growth mindset, Kat’s classroom environment encourages students with unique learning abilities to push through difficulty and remain resilient. In her first year as a teacher, she successfully integrated about 20% of her caseload from self-contained special education classrooms to general education classrooms. She continues to provide support to colleagues and students across Intermediate District 287.
