After working for many years as a User Experience (UX) Designer and Researcher, I've started a company called Pictal Health to help patients - especially those with complicated or mysterious conditions - tell their stories visually. I'm putting all my energy into that work right now; below is a little more about my design work and background.HOW I WORKI love to collaboratively sketch, brainstorm, talk to and learn from actual users, facilitate conversations, solve difficult problems, manage project details, and work closely with my team. I use visualization to model ecosystems, communicate research findings, and better understand complex relationships. I have led projects and teams that have worked together to design mobile and web products intended for use by a variety of healthcare stakeholders (patients, nurses, doctors, staff); I have also worked to create better service experiences for patients and families who are 'using' the healthcare system. When I’m not working you can find me skiing, hiking, running, attending farmer’s markets, finding cute dogs to pet, and taking in true crime.Specialties: Interaction design, information architecture, online collaboration, usability testing, user research, website development, taxonomy design, group facilitation, user training, service design, information and data visualization, content strategy, UX writing, copywriting

My process involved clinician and patient interviews, distillation of foundational research into user personas and a high-level strategy, collaboration on branding and 'look and feel,' heavy sketching, wireframing and prototyping, visual design, and collaboration with developers on the little details that matter. I enjoyed working closely with this small yet mighty organization. -
Ux Lead And Team GlueNotabli Oct 2014 - Jul 2015Burlington, Vermont, UsAt Notabli and Parent Co I helped lead a small design team that created products for parents to curate, archive, organize and privately share their kids' childhood. While there, one of my big goals was to increase collaboration and communication between the design, development, and business leadership teams. I implemented formal design reviews, created best practices around documentation and specification, encouraged the team to do tons more prototyping, and insisted on whiteboard usage while talking through problems. This helped to keep conversations on track and get everyone on the same page. I also spent a lot of time planning and managing product intricacies. I helped manage the design team's workflow and timelines, I wrote UI and email copy, and I assisted with planning small and large product improvements and releases. They called me 'Trello Mc-Card-y, the distiller.' As a UX specialist, I partnered with designers to work through the early stages of a design or product, helping with product definition and strategy, and working forward from there into information architecture, sketching and prototyping, testing and iterating. I aimed to keep the team focused on the end user's needs, problems, and context by facilitating user interviews and usability testing, writing surveys, and creating personas. -
Ux ConsultantMedivo Jun 2013 - Apr 2014New York, Ny, UsDuring my time consulting with Medivo, I served as the primary UX and design lead on multiple mobile app and web projects. This has involved very close collaboration with Medivo's Product and Development teams in New York and my UI design collaborator in Vermont. As part of this engagement I focused on bringing the end user into our design process through iterative usability testing and interviews with people who are representative of our user base. My process also involved competitive evaluation, flow diagramming, user surveys, lots and lots of sketching, wireframes, creation of mobile prototypes, tight collaboration with my visual design partner, extensive QA, jokes, and occasional animated gifs. -
