Ceo And FounderVirtual Legal Jun 2013 - PresentBrisbane, Qld, AuVirtual Legal is a law firm which manages commercial and property-related legal transactions online. Adopting the latest technology, charging only fixed fees and offering a transparent model of communication, ensures our clients can save time, money and stress in every day transactions whilst accessing our services from wherever they may be in the world. As all transactions are managed online, the practice is non-customer facing. This allows for cost reduction in overheads such as city rent, and these savings are passed on to our clients not only through competitive pricing, but through value adding in each transaction and also through our contribution back to the community via education, pro bono assistance, charitable events and sponsorship of local sporting events. The most common legal services sought from Virtual Legal include residential conveyancing, commercial conveyancing, retail leasing, commercial leasing, business sales, business purchases, buying franchises, selling franchises, setting up franchises, wills and estates services, drafting agreements for small businesses (i.e. employment agreements, privacy policies, terms and conditions, supply agreements) and setting up new companies and trusts. In terms of conveyancing and leasing, our property investor clients all over Australia and some living internationally, rave about the ease of conducting the transaction using the online system for live updates. As an early adopter of e-conveyancing, in the coming months Virtual Legal will be performing transactions purely in the online space with no physical settlement which saves clients money and reduces risk and provides settlement funds instantaneously through the PEXA portal.Small business owners often utilise the online system for document storage and as a quick solution. The competitive fixed price packages allow business owners to budget effectively, whilst the infographics and videos in the Learning Centre provides free education and support. -

PartnerNational Australia Bank Jul 2010 - Oct 2012Melbourne, Victoria, AuKatie managed a client portfolio of approximately 100 clients each holding approximately $5-30 million dollars of lending with the bank and $10-100 million dollars in assets. By utilising her legal skills, Katie assisted clients not only in a financial structuring capacity, but also provided direction in relation to how to best restructure companies to minimise financial cost and provide for a safer and more flexible leverage position, which the clients would then execute with their independent advisors. Katie also worked in the Legal Team for the bank during this period reviewing and negotiating on financial documents and providing commercial advice to the business bank. -
General Counsel & Assistant Company SecretaryPrice Attack Nov 2009 - Apr 2010Katie's role with the Price Attack Group involved an immediate audit of all legal functions and documentation, followed by implementation of electronic systems. As a short term (6 month) contract position, the work Katie focused on most significantly was finalisation of franchisee issues which had been outstanding for some time, updating the suite of precedents to be compliant with current law and then providing education to the directors on current risks, efficiencies available in the business upon approval of implementation of an electronic system, and providing results of the audit and action plans. Other tasks undertaken included working closely with the marketing department to educate staff on legal requirements in each state for running promotions and general advice on trade practices. Weekly meetings with the operations team allowed a close insight into stores which were likely to require proactive legal assistance for leasing issues, and to monitor franchise sales and purchases between franchisees.
