I assisted with organizing and executing events such as Health and Yoga Day, Indian Food Mela, DIY Solar Thermal Heating, Bike Maintenance Workshops, and a Mandala Painting Workshop. I also worked in the store, where I helped customers with questions and took inventory. At times, I tended to our extensive garden. My main project, though, was to write the sustainability strategy for a large Irish music festival called the Electric Picnic. I organized vendors, an array of green organizations and energy consultants, members of the Green Party and other non-profit groups into one cohesive effort in order to become the greenest music festival in Ireland. With the research I gathered, the ideas of these people, and the help and guidance of my 'mentor', I developed a plan for that year as well as for the next five years. My superiors were all from Ireland, Scotland and England. My fellow interns were from France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Zimbabwe and South Korea. As I was the only one who spoke English as a first language, we had to work hard to find ways to communicate effectively with one another. The internship did not only open my mind to new cultures, people and issues, it also gave me the tools to find sustainable solutions.
