I conduct research on the implementation and impact of the federal government's ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) funding that is being deployed through the American Rescue Plan in order to mitigate learning losses due to COVID. I am studying schools in Memphis, TN, with a special emphasis on autonomous/charter schools that will be receiving $130 million in ESSER funds.

Lira, Uganda

The University of Illinois Economics department is conducting a Randomized Control Trial (RCT) with around 200 schools in Uganda to evaluate the effectiveness of an Early Grade literacy program implemented by Mango Tree Literacy Lab, a local organization operating for over 10 years in the region. + Maintained clear and effective communication channels between the lead investigators and the team in Uganda+ Coordinated the implementation of field-based activities that reach as many as 28,000 respondents. This includes endline surveys, classroom observations, and household surveys + Led teams of up to 200 individuals each with distinct roles and responsibilities+ Worked with RTI's Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA) including training, implementation, and data analysis+ Supported relationships with funding organizations and partner institutions through assisting in grant applications + Presented results at a variety of international conferences, both in academic and policy settings
