Katherine W. Swenson is a senior principal at MASS Design Group, a global architecture non profit that leverages the transformative power of buildings and the design and construction processes to foster economic growth, social change, and justice. As a Loeb Fellow at Harvard University, she explored the intersection of critical design practice with economic and social equity, environmental sustainability, and the nurturing of healthy communities. She leads the Advocacy team, helping to earn MASS the AIA 2022 Architecture Firm of the Year.With more than 20 years of experience in design thinking's theory and practice, Katherine is an accomplished researcher, writer, and educator. She teaches design at Parsons School of Design and frequently guest lectures at universities around the world. She has published and contributed to several books on design and affordable housing, and received multiple awards and honors for her leadership and impact in the field. She is passionate about mentoring the next generation of architecture and community development leaders, and empowering them to design with love, compassion, and kindness.
