My main objective at The Atlantic was to widen the appeal of this already global brand into the digital space through acquisition and strategic partnerships. One year and countless campaigns later, business had grown 20% year-over-year every single month. I developed and implemented the digital marketing strategy, overseeing a budget of half a million dollars for campaigns that generated over $1.5 million in profit annually. Campaigns outside of digital (display advertising, social media, email, etc) included direct mail and holiday gift campaigns, targeting over 1 million recipients. I was also responsible for pursuing and negotiating business partnerships to grow the brand and allow for acquisition of outside memberships.

As the accounts manager of the only publication focusing on political campaign strategy, I worked to ensure our readership was targeted with relevant and influential advertising. I managed a book of over 200 clients made up of political consultants, public affairs firms, media and advertising agencies, and associations/non-profits. By identifying and managing a pipeline of revenue opportunities across print and digital advertising platforms, I negotiated contracts, created media plans, and offered consultation as to which opportunities best accomplished clients’ media targeting goals and greatest ROI.

As an Educational Leadership Consultant for Kappa Alpha Theta, I learned to manage relationships with a variety of different people from all over the country. This two year consulting experience taught me how to be focused and proactive in a working environment where the success of the organization is highly contingent upon my success in the field. It also helped me refine my problem solving skills and enhanced my interpersonal development. I was able to be exposed to a fast paced atmosphere that challenged me to learn how to adapt to an environment that constantly changed day in and day out. I traveled to 36 of the 50 states in the US and 2 Canadian provinces within the two years, working with people of all different personalities and backgrounds. Below is a summary of job responsibilites:• Served as an international representative for Kappa Alpha Theta women’s fraternity, an internationally recognized not-for-profit organization.• Visited chapters on college campuses across the country to ensure policy compliance by meeting with university officials, collegiate officers, and advisory boards. Working along side two of Kentucky's most renowned lobbyists allowed me to experience a different aspect of the political arena - advocacy and support of public interests. As the legislative intern for KRF, I was responsible for researching, analyzing, and summarizing over 100 bills of interest for KRF’s 3,000 members. I attended committee meetings daily and presented detailed briefings to federation staff. I also maintained the KRF website to ensure that members had access to the most accurate and up-to-date information on legislation.

Experiencing government from the nation's capital allowed me to develop a better understanding of the legislative process on the federal level. As a congressional intern, I assisted the staff of Congressman Ed Whitfield from Kentucky’s first district. I worked directly with constituent services through drafting letters and sending email correspondence, as well as through administering upbeat and informative Capitol tours for constituents visiting the office. I also attended committee meetings weekly and wrote detailed summaries for the legislative assistants. One of the memos I wrote on donor state issues was sent to the Kentucky Governor’s office by request of the legislative director.

As the legislative intern to Senator Dorsey Ridley, I observed the legislative process through individual meetings with legislators, lobbyists, and constituents, as well as through tracking the order of business on both the Senate and House floors.
