About Katie Wood
In February 2020, I took a secondment within LBB and joined Emergency Planning, blissfully unaware of the Global Pandemic ahead. I saw it as an opportunity to grow, develop and challenge myself in completely new area.A TED talk with Sarah Ellis & Helen Tupper recently resonated with me. They spoke about their book “Squiggly Careers”. We’re usually taught from pretty early on that the ambition in the workplace is to “climb the ladder” only taking moves that will propel us upwards into our organisations, rather than looking at slightly side wards moves that will perhaps offer something more both personally and professionally. As such I decided to take the “squiggly” career move and try something new, different and outside of my comfort zone where I’d need to learn pretty much everything away from a text book or a classroom.I was made Acting Emergency Planning Manager in April 2020 and was offered the role permanently in December 2020. I’ve recruited four team members and have had the opportunity to welcome two NGDP graduates to the team too. I’ve learnt so much and gained new passions and knowledge; I’ve learnt how important Emergency Planning and Business Continuity is to a Local Authority and how important a Local Authority is to its residents in a time of crisis which has made me even more aware of the strategic challenges which face local authorities now and in the future. As co-chair of the LGBTQ+ Staff Network at Barnet, this network also gives me an opportunity to lead and share opinions as well as actively listen in an environment outside of my direct team. Pre Emergency Planning, I've got more than ten years experience within the press, marketing, communications, campaigns and media sector. Across private and the public sector I have experience of delivering highly engaging and effective multi-channel PR, marketing and comms campaigns and strategically planning, creating and delivering on projects and campaigns, on time and to tight budgets.During my time at talkSPORT I have experience of; producing live sporting events, managing presenters, dealing with breaking news in an on-air environment, creating audio packages and building key relationships with agents, celebrities, journalists and press officers.
Listed skills include Social Media, Social Networking, Sound, Social Media Marketing, and 23 others.
