Managed daily use and upkeep of the clean labs & MS lab by 10+ students, including hazardous chemical use, storage & disposal. Performed routine & non-routine maintenance for all rock & mineral preparation facilities (including heavy machinery, such as rock crushers) and assisted with or performed supervised maintenance of Sector 54 MS.

Mining engineer for the Yucca Mountain national nuclear geologic repository. Created & maintained 3D underground excavation design and regional geologic model (in Maptek’s VULCAN). Authored several subsurface mining documents, including the main subsurface design document, all of which were subject to a U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission-approved quality assurance program. Contributed to application for a license to construct the repository (submitted to the NRC in June 2008), including authoring several NRC Requests for Additional Information responses during license review.

This included routine & non-routine maintenance and daily operation of gas extraction line and MS, as well as radioactive material preparation, storage, analysis and disposal. Performed sample degassing using a furnace or a UV laser assembly.

Leader of a 4-7 man field mapping team in central western Virginia. Created a geologic bedrock map of the Swift Run Gap 7.5’ quadrangle, Virginia, under a U.S.G.S. EDMAP grant and in conjunction with the larger, interinstitutional geologic mapping of Shenandoah National Park. In addition to compiling field data into a professional geologic map, my role was to petrographically differentiate the local Grenville plutonic suite and to map the extent of & determine the kinematic geometry along high-strain zones that dissect these plutons.
