Kat worked as a design-driven transportation planner who helps communities think differently about what their future could look like. She has experience managing and providing support on bicycle, pedestrian, and trail master plans; transit and first/last mile studies; corridor studies; complete streets projects; and trail feasibility studies. She asks questions that drill into the root of key issues, and her problem-solving approach leads to solution-oriented plans that are tailored to the individual place. She has worked on many design projects where she applies her understanding of technical roadway design guidance and policies, bringing a larger-scale planning lens to smaller-scale design questions. Her projects tend to be graphically rich, with maps, plan view illustrations, cross sections, and renderings that make change understandable and approachable. Other technical skills include research, data collection, cartography and spatial data analysis, technical writing, policy analysis, and implementation strategy. Kat’s geographical focus is in the Southeast US, but also works across the country. She understands the immense impact the mobility and transportation have on our lives, and is motivated to leverage change to create healthier and more sustainable communities.

Researched and drafted content for a Health Impact Assessment exploring the effects of freight activity on adjacent communities and appropriate buffers between freight activity and sensitive land uses.

Provide support on all phases of planning and urban design project and marketing work at this 75-person firm. Responsibilities include maintaining marketing collateral; leading award submissions; updating/building websites (for the firm as well as for planning initiatives); organizing conferences and speaking engagements; assessing and reporting on RFP/Qs; researching and contacting potential partners; writing proposal content; contacting community stakeholders; planning/preparing for public meetings; developing meeting and report graphics; and tracking implementation efforts. Following the departure of our manager, I was called upon to lead all marketing and business development initiatives and manage a staff of 13 planners and urban designers for four months until the position was filled. Made site visits with designers to check in on construction, take photographs, and take dimensions.

Researched and co-wrote article with Professor James Middlebrook about low budget solutions for design-build projects.Researched submission requirements for academic journals. Built models for a renovation project was given by the college.
