Dr. Katreena Merrill is a Professor at Brigham Young University (BYU) College of Nursing, Provo, Utah. She has been a nurse for over 35 years. She started her career at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah specializing in infection control and quality improvement. She is certified in Infection Control. As part of her work in nursing quality and research with Intermountain Healthcare she served as a Magnet Program Coordinator. She received her PhD in nursing research in 2011 from the University of Utah. She is a member of several national professional nursing organizations including the Association for Practitioners in Infection Control and served as the Utah chapter co-education director 2015-2018 and from 2019-2020 as Research Board member. She also served as the program committee chair for the Western Institute of Nursing. In 2017, she was inducted into the National Academies of Practice as a professional member. She currently teaches in the College of Nursing at BYU. Dr. Merrill’s research focus is on patient safety in healthcare with an emphasis on preventing healthcare-associated infections.
