I am a Professor of Atmospheric Science and Physics at the University of Helsinki and the Finnish Meteorological Institute. At the INAR - Institute for Atmospheric and Earth System Research, I lead the Atmospheric Aerosols research group. Additionally, I serve as the Director of the Doctoral Program in Atmospheric Science and am a board member of the University of Helsinki Doctoral School.My primary research focus lies in new particle formation and atmospheric nanoparticles, exploring their impact on air quality and climate. With extensive practical experience in environmental measurement technology, I possess a broad understanding of atmospheric chemistry and aerosol physics. Beyond research, I am passionate about PhD education, science communication, innovations, and leveraging scientific knowledge for societal benefit.My skill set encompasses field and laboratory measurements, research coordination, scientific and technical writing, project management, and data analysis. I have actively participated in international projects, overseeing measurement campaigns and experiments at renowned research facilities such as CERN, ACTRIS, and SMEAR stations. As a scientific expert, I contribute to the development and operation of the ACTRIS-Finland research infrastructure and the ACTRIS Cluster Calibration Center.Collaborating closely with private-sector partners and instrument manufacturers, I strive to enhance and standardize measurement methods of aerosol nanoparticles. Additionally, I have worked as a science manager and advisor for a startup technology company, serving in their board of directors.
