Last year I decided to make a career change, going from working in the natural sciences field to becoming a JavaScript developer. I was accepted into a 12 week intensive program that was held by Academic Work Academy and Brights Learning. I completed the program alongside 17 other candidates. It was one of the fastest and greatest learning experiences I have had. It was refreshing being able to learn and work with other people that were just as motivated, like-minded and eager to start a new career. In the span of only 12 weeks, I learned Fullstack JavaScript - which is incorporating front-end and back-end solutions with a database to make a full functioning app. For the front-end, we learned UX/UI design, HTML, CSS and React.js. For the back-end we used Node.js to run the Express server, learned how to use several npm packages and connected the server to a postgreSQL database. Additionally, we touched on how to work Agile when in a team. Now that I've completed the program, I can't wait to start developing!!
