SETAC Europe is one of the 4 geographic units of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC). SETAC Europe is a not-for-profit, professional society comprised of individuals and institutions engaged in the study, analysis, and solution of environmental problems; the management and regulation of natural resources; environmental education; research and development. As Science & Operational Manager, I managed the daily affairs and business of the Association, coordinated the activities of administrative supportive personnel and represented the Association as needed. I also managed the scientific affairs of the Association (organisation of the scientific programme for SETAC Europe meetings, technical coordination of workshops, organisation of short courses, support to SETAC Europe’s advisory groups, project management).

After the previous SETAC Europe Executive Director Bart Bosveld left, I took over his function for an interim period of 8 months, until a new Executive Director was found.

Responsibilities: - Organisation of the scientific programme for SETAC Europe meetings, abstract administration and technical coordination of review by scientific committee and session chairs;- Technical coordination of workshops including venue arrangements, announcements, participant registration, abstract handling, report/proceedings, etc.;- Organisation of short courses at the SETAC Europe annual meeting;- Support to SETAC Europe’s advisory groups;- Participation in and support to SETAC Europe and SETAC World council meetings;- Project management.

EURAS has been established in 1996 from the key activities developed at Ghent University (Laboratory of Environmental Toxicology) and provides assistance to the industry and governmental agencies in the field of environmental toxicology and risk assessments.At EURAS, I was mainly involved in environmental risk assessment of organic compounds, the development of several databases and the coordination of research on endocrine disruption and pharmaceuticals in the environment. Furthermore, I co-organised an international conference on marine incidents management (MIMAC 2006).

Scientific research at the Faculty of Agricultural and Applied Biological Sciences - Laboratory of Environmental Toxicology (Prof. dr. Colin Janssen).Within the domain of ecotoxicology, I evaluated, compared and used different techniques for the detection of a possible endocrine disrupting character of pure compounds and environmental samples. This research was performed within a number of projects, in which I collaborated with industrial partners, government institutes and other universities.
