Working in over 100 countries, World Values Day supports values-driven, ground-level community work throughout the year. On the third Thursday of each October, thousands of projects and people come together to celebrate World Values Day. As part of the core management team, my role is to support connections between people and projects, and expand our reach to new countries and opportunities. I lead the World Values Day engagement with the G20, via the Values 20 Task Force. This year, I supported 15 contributors to the Values 20 Communique , which includes significant contributions from Tauranga’s community support and food rescue charity, Good Neighbour. In addition, an article I have written about the global definition of VALUES Objectives, to accompany SMART Objectives, will be published in this year’s G20 Summit Magazine. Each year we launch World Values Day from New Zealand, because it's the first place to see the sun on each new day. New Zealand

Building on the work done by TRON (The Rail Opportunities Network), I conducted a full evidence review relating to inter-regional rail in New Zealand’s Golden Triangle. This concluded that, if rail was packed in a way that made it appealing to global inward investors, it could be delivered without putting excessive strain on the public purse. This approach would also require members of the public served by the line would have to form a cooperative to own and operate the line once it was delivered.Following the publication of the report, I established a network of volunteers to help with stakeholder engagement and further analysis of how this idea would connect with existing transport and inward investment strategies. I briefed the Minister for Transport and held a cross Party Parliamentary Group meeting, which resulted in the announcement of a Select Committee Inquiry. Speaking at the Future is Rail Conference alongside MPs and senior government officials, I reemphasised the point that inward investment of imperative to delivery of the service, and that rail must set itself in context with roads, freight and aviation if it is to become part of an integrated transport strategy.The team will be concluding the Making Rail Work Initiative in November 2023, with Briefing to Incoming Ministers. This report will provide observations and recommendations about how an urban development corporation might draw all of these strands together, and streamline the inward investment process.

This is a new kind of recruitment concept that provides everyone with the opportunity to demonstrate their skills, without the need for a protracted and often ineffective interview process.Socially positive project leaders are invited to post the tasks that fester at the end of their to do lists in our activity zone. Individuals with skills or talents they are not putting to use are invited to demonstrate and practice those skills by taking a task.The concept was trialled over a two-year period in Central London, where membership grew globally and exponentially. Projects that were in danger of failing found positive support and individuals who had struggled to get interviews quickly found paid and fulfilling contracts and jobs.The initiative is currently being written up so that it can be re-introduced and scaled at pace.

Tauranga, Bay Of Plenty, New Zealand

Working with a team of passionate housing policy influencers, I helped to strategically shape a Residential Cooperative education programme for Parliamentarians, government policy officials, and media. With a view to supporting the incumbent government’s agenda for promoting State Housing, we challenged officials to look ahead and consider Residential Cooperatives as a way to bridge the gap between state dependency and independent home ownership.

Tinker NZ is a virtual public affairs and communications consultancy. I established the network in December 2018 with my former colleague, Jessica Meade. We seek to work with project clients as opposed to looking for retained accounts. Our clients find themselves in a communications crisis and don’t know which marketing or communications discipline will help them resolve the issue. My job is to work with the client to help design a strategy, based on the budget they have available. As a multi-disciplined public affairs and communications expert, I deliver most of the work and then bring in experts when they are needed. The network is global, which means we are able to draw on skills and case studies from other parts of the world. I also provide personal and professional life coaching services.Clients include: BurgerFuel, Rotorua Hospice, the families of the Dothett murder victim, Addictive DJs, Epoch Events NZ.

Managing all media enquiries, drafting media campaigns and pitches, writing content for the website about announcements, events, courses and student accomplishments, and supporting the faculties across all campuses with developing messaging and identifying good news stories. This role is also responsible for overseeing internal communications and social media activity and helping it to evolve as the student body changes and grows. I was also responsible for conducting a review of how the monitoring and measurement of coverage is reported and informs future communications activity.Ensuring the unique nature of the Toi Ohomai brand is represented in all communications appropriately and that the iwi that gifted it to us are consulted and given appropriate and timely representation. Managing the internal communications for Te Kahui Matauranga and creating the future communications plans for the introduction of Toi Ohomai’s founding Māori values is also a delicate negotiation that is an intriguing, and enlightening, part of this role.

Following the last election, I was approached by an academic publishing company asking me to write a book about the stakeholder engagement systems I have designed. While considering this career direction, I undertook a variety of consulting, speaking and specialist training contracts so I could continue to make best use of my skills at the same time as experiencing what a move into academia would be like. Co-developed and managed the strategic introduction and positioning of clean question key influencer surveys to Gateway Associates portfolio of products. These surveys focus on a single, complex policy milestone or issue and gather the views of the key decision makers and stakeholders. The results are presented in a report that sets out the landscape of opinion on the subject in a way that allows all parties to have a debate about the issues as opposed to the politics behind the policy. The reports are un-sponsored, politically neutral and published with the support of relevant Parliamentary groups in Westminster. In my capacity as Government & Business Communications Expert, I also co-authored the first two outcome reports on High Speed Rail and Thames Estuary Airport.
