Kathryn (Kat) Sobotka Email and Phone Number
At my core I am inquisitive, both professionally and intellectually. I love (almost) any opportunity to learn something new. That's why I love developing new skills: from cross-departmental training & new analytical tools, to volleyball & photography.Fun fact: I took the landscape photo in my Banner while traveling through Ireland. This was off the beaten path at a local fishing spot near the Giant's CausewayI have always felt impelled to positively impact my community in some way. No seriously. My first job out of college was as a Special Education Teacher. My experience was unique: I taught in a little gray trailer behind a children's hospital (think little red schoolhouse), where the kids lived for 3 months up to 5 years. All the students were on different levels (running the gamut from developmentally delays to AP-level high school). I loved the kids; I still keep in touch with a few of them. After earning my MBA, I started working in CUNY's Office of Budget & Finance. My small (3-person) group has a large impact on the University's roughly 250,000 students (in contrast to the 12 students I taught in the classroom). In addition to everything else we do, we act as a think-tank that not only brainstorms but also implements creative solutions.
