At the Columbia Missourian, I worked as a education beat reporter and on general assignment shifts. I wrote university news stories, breaking news, event coverage, briefs and stories I pitched. I also contributed reporting to a project on the climate at MU two years after the nationally-covered protests.

I oversaw and edited all content for the culture section of MOVE Magazine, which produced the bulk of the magazine's content. I lead a team of beat writers and hosted weekly meetings. I edited with multiple writers a week to improve their content.In March 2017, I lead The Maneater and MOVE Magazine's coverage of Columbia's True/False Film Fest, which included creating story pitches, assigning film reviews, managing a press pass schedule and editing content.

As Engagement Specialist, I organized events and distribution for the publication, as well as developed strategies to boost our social media and newsletter. I also worked with potential staffers and readers to further increase our connection with our reader base. As a member of The Maneater Editorial Board, I used communication skills on a daily basis.

As a music columnist, I found ways to approach the same general topic from a different angle each week. I gained practice writing reviews, using multimedia elements, making playlists and quizzes, and crafting interesting listicles.

I pursued my love for geek culture and podcasting as a co-producer and co-host of this show, which doubled as a live radio show and an online podcast. Working in leadership roles in live broadcast has shaped my ability to problem solve quickly and think on the fly, and this show had me on the air without a script.

Working in live radio, mainly as a producer and host, improved not just my journalistic and technical skills, but also my ability to work in a fast-paced environment, solve problems on the fly while on air and communicate with my teammates. I gained experience producing, writing, hosting and anchoring. I worked with scripted and unscripted shows, as well as helped conduct live interviews.

My high school newspaper won national competitions while I was editor, including the prestigious Pacemaker award from the National Scholastic Press Association.
