I am Katy Lynch, principal of Meadow Glens Elementary, and I have had an extraordinary educational journey with plenty of obstacles and opportunities along the way. My mission in my personal and professional life has evolved alongside my educational journey. After receiving a BA from Regis University in Denver Colorado, I returned to graduate school at National-Louis University and Aurora University in Illinois where I earned three master’s degrees in education; Early Childhood, Reading Specialist, and School Administration. My personal and professional mission is to remove obstacles standing in the way of success for ALL. Our vision at Meadow Glens, Preparing ALL students for success, informs every decision. I want to help students reach high levels of success by teaching them to think flexibly and learn from another person’s perspective. At Meadow Glens, we encourage students to solve problems and behave intelligently when faced with a challenge. Our focus is on developing the skills, attitudes, and behaviors necessary to perform under conditions that demand strategic reasoning, insightfulness, perseverance, and creativity. The increasing diversity at Meadow Glens and the movement to globalization have prompted us to employ culturally responsive practices. Both inside and outside of the classroom, we actively look for ways to connect students’ personal cultural experiences as a foundation upon which to develop knowledge and skills. We seek opportunities to increase awareness of differences as a way of breaking down stereotypes and responding to our diverse population of students. By encouraging a growth mindset, providing a model for specific feedback focused on possibilities, and asking questions that invite comparisons with others’ perspectives, we have created an inclusive and welcoming environment.All stakeholders are valued as part of a highly effective system committed to maximizing student success at every level. We work together to thoughtfully interconnect our efforts to improve student learning.
