About Katy Macpherson, Msc
Marine Ecologist with specialities in marine habitat mapping and species distribution modelling. An undergraduate degree in Marine Biology and Coastal Ecology has supplied strong theoretical and practical knowledge of marine research. The current pursuit of a Masters of Science in a Geography department is supporting the theoretical knowledge through practical application in data collection tools, processing, analysis and visualisation in geographic information systems. Practical skills with tools and equipment are a product of field research experience and personal interest that stems back to childhood. Being a scuba diver with 10 years experience in personal and professional equipment maintenance has given opportunities to gain hands on practice. Public speaking and interpretation skills have been honed through the gaining of a Diving Instructor Qualification and has been a continuous area of development. Public outreach, academic presentations, conferences and volunteering have all been opportunities to practice and develop these skills.
