About Katy Winterborn

Discovering creative solutions to difficult problems is what drives me, and I thrive on truly understanding the details of a challenge and crafting innovative solutions. My current role is global practice lead for code review and native application, my task is to understand what makes a great consultant in the area and develop training, support and pathways that encourage participation and ensure growth. Alongside this I am seeking out ways to discover client challenges and make sure we have the solutions and products that solve real world problems.Ten years’ experience in the cyber security industry, performing penetration tests and security assessments has given me a deep understanding of the threat landscape in various areas including application and infrastructure security with a focus on code review and technical due diligence for mergers and acquisitions. While a key component of this is technical, it has also been vital to develop communication skills to help clients understand what a report means to them. To further hone these skills, I seek out public speaking opportunities and have presented at conferences such as CyberUK, including the plenary session on the leadership day in 2018. In addition, I am passionate about teaching, and this has led to delivering training in reverse engineering and exploit development as well as teaching senior executives the fundamentals in a 'back to the floor' session. My initial role within the cyber security industry was as a network analyst, monitoring network traffic for signs of intrusion. I made the transition into security consultancy after identifying a need to train analyst staff in offensive skills to gain certifications, what initially started as a secondment blossomed into my first training course and a permanent role in penetration testing. Outside of work I have several hobbies, including photography and languages, but what draws me to all of my interests is understanding the path to mastery. While for me, they will remain hobbies, I love to understand the skills of a master and the path they took to reach the top, a passion that drives my work and influences everything I do.

Listed skills include Testing, Analysis, Networking, Tcp/Ip, and 13 others.
