About Katy Scott (Messenger)

I’ve always been keenly interested in how we interact and communicate with each other and I’m fortunate to find myself in a career that allows me to continually connect and learn from others. Currently, I’m the Head of Talent at Focused, where I focus on developing passionate, collaborative team members who want to continually improve themselves. Coming from a recruiting background, I hold strong opinions on how organizations should interview and hire, how they teach and think about diversity, set up teams for success, and provide growth opportunities. I struggle to work for organizations that are failing in these areas because I believe firmly in equity as a foundational condition of great organizations. I am not excited about hiring people to check a quota, I want to hire people who are set up to succeed long term - who love their work and feel valued and respected every day. I aspire to continually build a work environment where you can join and feel confident that every day you are continuing to grow, learn, and thrive in your work and never compromising on your values.What I personally believe:• Work should be sustainable. We know that we can create happier, more productive teams when we step away from work at the end of the day, every day. • We all have more to learn. You can call this lifelong learning or cultivating a growth mindset; but whatever you call it, we should all be creating work environments that continually review and reflect on successes, failures, data, and feedback. This helps us understand how we can improve. Everyone learns better this way. • Diversity and Inclusion are equally integral to creating great work environments. McKinsey has consistently proven this through research in 2015 (Why Diversity Matters), 2018 (Delivering through diversity) and 2020 (Diversity Wins). I want to help make inclusive workplaces attainable and actualized through acknowledgment, education, and actionable discussion.
