At Jere Baxter, 67% of my 7th graders met or exceeded their growth projection goals from MAP 1-3. In the 2020-21 school year, during the COVID pandemic, 8th grade students at Two Rivers had the lowest number of students scoring 'Below' and the highest in 'Approaching' on TNReady ELA, with solid results for both in-person and virtual students.

Working with colleague Jacob Wilson, I created an 8th grade Common-Core based curriculum for teaching Laurie R. King's novel THE BEEKEEPER'S APPRENTICE. Our materials include a set of non-fiction texts to accompany the novel. The supplemental texts add additional context for the novel and provide the non-fiction reading that Common Core requires. The curriculum consists of pre-teaching materials, exercises, and assessments, and is designed to be used with 8th grade students. We've also created units for Gary D. Schmidt's THE WEDNESDAY WARS and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES.Author Laurie R. As the sole instructor for 7th grade English at USN, I designed all curricula (including assessments) for grammar, writing, literature, and vocabulary. Key Units included Dystopian Young Adult Literature, Social Justice and Racism, and the Responsibility of the Individual. Whenever possible I sought out team-teaching opportunities. On multiple occasions I paired with our technology coordinator, and later with our library director to plan and teach together.Supervised individual 8th grade students in independent studies. Projects were designed by the students and included a weekly discussion of their progress and process. Working out of the Student Academic Center, I taught multiple sections of X-150, a six week study skills and time management course. Each section included approximately 15 IU undergraduates, often athletes, or students who were struggling with the transition from high school to college.In addition to designing my own single instructor version of the course, I collaborated with Sarah Gradek Harger, another graduate instructor, to create a team-taught version of the course. Our collaborative model represented a pioneering approach to X-150, and we subsequently wrote a paper analyzing the efficacy of both the team- and solo-taught courses.

Coordinated Vanderbilt study-abroad programs in 15 countries. Responsibilities included recruitment, processing applications, obtaining student visas, and preparation of transfer credit materials. I worked closely with students, especially during recruitment and orientation workshops, served as liaison between faculty and staff abroad and those on the Vanderbilt campus, and supervised graduate interns and undergraduate work-study office assistants. When I took the position, the handbook provided to students was minimal. Using my own experience of overseas study, and with input from alumni of the Vanderbilt programs, I wrote a new handbook, including detailed information about modes of travel, currency exchange, managing homesickness, and packing the right clothes and personal items for six to nine months away from the United States. In their return evaluations, many students commented that the handbook had helped them feel confident about their preparations for studying abroad.
