Profile bio

About Katy Walsh

I'm a storyteller by nature. I've channeled that attribute into a career focused on targeting the right audience with the right message as a call to action. My extensive experience developing and executing fundraising and communication strategies has delivered results in the human services, healthcare, academic and arts & culture sectors. I strive to partner with purpose-driven organizations to amplify their mission in an effort to create growth and impact lives. Throughout my career, I have served in senior director leadership positions at a variety of national nonprofits. My longest stint was serving as Chief Advancement Officer at National Runaway Safeline for fourteen years. During my tenure, I led multiple innovative initiatives, including; rebranding with a new name, launching the first-ever major gift campaign and executing several national marketing strategies. At NRS, I grew the team to include both staff (digital media, outreach, communications) and consultants (media, graphic design, research, website) to connect youth in crisis to critical services. Most recently at One Hope United, I assembled and empowered a talented team. Together, we launched a new website, revamped CRM protocols, increased development revenue by 15% and initiated systemized internal and external engagement tools for stakeholders. I provided guidance in strategizing, developing and distributing messages across 48 sites and two states. As I storyteller, I find tremendous satisfaction in translating complex ideas into digestible content to secure private and public funding. I've also had the unique experience of being both a grantee and a grantor. Throughout my nonprofit career, I've served as a primary author on grants proposals (private, government, corporate). I've also collaborated with program teams to determine the need, the measurement outcomes and the budget for achievement. On the flip side, I've served on the board of directors for the Carol Oppenheim and Jerome Lamet Charitable Fund awarding nearly a million dollars in three years. I'm well-versed in the grant-making process from development to evaluation.I'm based in Chicago. It allows me to enjoy all the amenities of big city life while still being close to my family and Indiana roots. In the last 15 years, I've published two books and review Chicago theatre on my blog, The Fourth Walsh. Specialties: storytelling, communication strategies, online content, media relations, writer, strategic planning, grant writing, special event management, community engagement, annual giving, major gift giving

On August 6, 2012, I started my blog about my journey to turning 50. It was a self-explorative examination. I mused on people and moments in the past and present that have influenced me.
