It was a good experience being TA for labs. Power electronics is one of the professional electives chosen by BS EE students. As a lab TA, checking and grading prelabs and lab reports are my responsibilities. When students struggle with the labs, I helped debug their circuits and explained the meaning of experimental results.

As a senior, two classes called "Multidisciplinary Senior Design (MSD) I and II" were taken during Fall and Spring Semesters 2014-15. The project is called Sun Tracker (P15571). The goal is to build autonomous tracking system which rotates 7-foot C band dish to collect RF data from astronomical objects. The primary purpose is to collect RF data from the Sun as a part of ECallisto Global Network in order to study solar events such as solar flare. It is a team of 7 students: 2 MEs, 1 CE and 4 EEs. During MSD I, designs and concepts were explored and developed. Then they were tested and/or implemented in MSD II. Slewing drive and linear actuator are used to rotate the dish and provide sufficient degrees of rotation throughout the year. Limit switches are employed to prevent damage to the wires from more than 360-degree rotation in case of software failure. Waterproof connectors and motors rated for IP 54 and 67 are used to meet one of the customer requirements, weather protection. User interface is provided to the customer to simplify the setup for autonomous tracking and manual control. As a part of the team, schematics, PCB layouts and wiring harness designs are my responsibilities. One of the most challenging and important issues is filtering quadrature hall signals from slewing drive to achieve precise positional feedbacks. After numerous trials and tests, the final noise filter design includes low pass filters and D Flip-Flops on PCB and the use of shielded cables which blocks inductive and EMI noises from the motor respectively. The team's guide and customer are satisfied with the project. The dish can track the Sun with 0.5 degree accuracy (due to communication speed) which is beyond 2.0 degree accuracy needed. Soldering rework, cable harness assembly and support to Software Development Team is my daily job. Bluetooth research, PCB design and USB 2.0 Low Speed, High Speed and Full Speed testing were also involved during Summer internship. These assignments horned my skills in soldering and PCB design.

This is my first co-op at Diebold, Inc. I worked on evaluating variety of sensors and testing CCAs and ATM machines. During co-op, I learned how to use many tools and software such as soldering station, crimp tools, Mentor Graphics and LPKF PCB printer along the process of wiring harness assembly and PCB design. To increase total capacitance of capacitor bank using aluminum electrolytic capacitors, 3D modelling in Sketchup was performed to optimize total capacitance. Then, PCB design and layout were developed using PADS layout and Logic. Finally, LPKF printer was used to print the board.
