About Kavin Kadam

Hello there! I'm currently a student pursuing a BSc in Biology and a minor in Commerce at The University of British Columbia.Due to my breadth of study and work, cell biology, nanoparticle stability and accounting are my main focuses, derived from my academic career and intern experience.Combining my love for entrepreneurship, I'm applying my knowledge to my own Ed-Tech startup, Clarify. The goal of Clarify is to offer accessible and personalized digital education to students from diverse backgrounds. Additionally, I have a strong interest in the combination of machine learning with microbiology and ecology. At the end of the day I like to problem solve, no matter the industry!

This addressed a market of students who didn't need private tutoring but didn't find lectures helpful either.Authored and sold summary notes for EOSC 211, selling 11 units in the same week of publication.Achieved $4,500 in revenue through services and grants, including recognition as a Top 10 finalist at the Youth Impact Challenge 2022.I play an active role in board votes and corporate strategy.
  • Precision Nanosystems Inc.
Drug Formulation And Delivery Intern (Research & Development)
Precision Nanosystems Inc. Dec 2022 - Sep 2023
    Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
With PNI, I am supporting the development of novel lipid and polymer based formulations using the proprietary NanoAssemblr microfluid platform. This is notably a groundbreaking industry with the pivot towards mRNA vaccines and other related pharmaceutical developments in recent years.I've had the pleasure of leading independent projects on nanoparticle formulations, including experimental design and reports which I presented to the wider R&D delivery team:- I analyzed stability by varying lipid membrane component makeup, such as cholesterol, DSPC as well as various other stabilizer and polymer components.- I tested for nanoparticle stability based on PBS dilution (to consider for Ostwald ripening), and measuring particle stability via its encapsulation efficiency, size, PDI and % yield. - Preparation of lipid mixes for use in formulations, requiring precise calculations of component concentrations and volumes for preparations.- Used the Ignite platform to perform formulations in alignment with the wider team's objectives, such as screening lipid components. This also means post-formulation efforts such as cryobuffer additions and post-storage stability analysis.- Assisting in animal studies, requiring elevated sterilization methods such as sterile filtration and biosafety cabinet operation.- Assisting in lyophilization studies, which involved post-formulation addition of lyobuffers as well as reconstitution and Day N stability analysis.- Compiling, cleaning and presenting data using the Microsoft Office suite and Graphpad Prism.
  • Ubc Sailbot
Finance Lead & Electrical Engineering Embed
    Ubc Sailbot Sep 2020 - Aug 2022
    Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
In this role, I widened my scope on account management and software development. During my two years here I:- Managed internal accounts in alignment with UBC Club standards, which involved standardizing record keeping in order to qualify and win university grants.- Simplified and recompiled old records from up to 2 years prior, resulting in over $1,000 of forgotten or otherwise unreconciled reimbursements and sponsorships.- Closed outstanding and incoming reimbursements, worth over $2,500 in engineering components and SaaS subscriptions.- Managed corporate relations, securing a $500 sponsorship from Fluor Canada and setting the team up for future sponsorships from Cellula Robotics and StemCell. As an embed in the electrical engineering team, I wrote a script to monitor the wattage of onboard batteries when applied to the rudder using common Python libraries. This entailed:- Refining boilerplate Tkinter code to create a UI tailored to our needs (navigating directories to find CSV input files).- Using NumPy, Pandas and MatPlotLib to clean, wrangle and plot the data, allowing for an interactive feedback plot which returns values of the user's click.- Providing documentation and debug support to the electrical team. Adding features in which the user can save the plots to their local device.
  • Ubc & The City Of Vancouver
Ubc-City Of Vancouver Liaison City Planning Committee
Ubc & The City Of Vancouver Sep 2019 - Aug 2020

The City of Vancouver recently launched community hearings for their new City Plan, now called the Vancouver Plan. The committee's objective is to organize a hearing conference where City officials can engage with UBC's community. In my role within this committee, I had the privilege of:- Leading a team of 20 members responsible for conducting comprehensive market research focused on Point Grey and UBC residents. - Spearheading a highly effective media marketing campaign that successfully reached and engaged with over 250 residents, enabling them to share their perspectives on city management. - Summarizing the research findings to provide a comprehensive report to the UBC-City of Vancouver Liaison Committee.
